Introduction

Artemis Petconnect Inc. (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the askKynos mobile application, website, and related services (collectively, the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information when you use our Service.

We take your privacy seriously. This policy is written in plain language so you can understand what happens with your data. If anything is unclear, email us at support@artemispetconnect.com and we’ll explain.

This Privacy Policy is a notice, not a contract, and explains how we handle your personal information. By using askKynos, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. Where the law requires your consent for a specific use of your information, such as marketing, we will ask for it separately. If you do not want your information handled as described here, please do not use the Service.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

Account information: Name, email address, phone number, password, profile photo, and home address (used as the service location for bookings).
Pet information: Pet name, species, breed, age, weight, health conditions, vaccination records, behavioral notes, dietary requirements, and photos.
Sitter profile information: Experience, qualifications, availability, service area, rates, bio, references, and profile photos.
Payment information: Payments and sitter payouts are handled by our payment processor, Stripe. Card and bank-account details are entered with and stored by Stripe; askKynos never stores full card numbers or bank-account details on its servers.
Communications: Messages exchanged with other users through the app, customer support inquiries, feedback, and survey responses.
Verification documents: A government-issued ID (such as a driver’s license) used to verify a sitter’s identity. Background-check information, including Social Security number and date of birth, is entered directly on our background-check provider’s secure page (Checkr) and is never collected or stored by askKynos.

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

Device information: Device type, operating system, unique device identifiers, browser type, and app version.
Fraud-prevention identifier: A first-party device identifier we use only to detect and prevent referral-program fraud. It is not shared with third parties and is not used for advertising or analytics.
Push notification token: If you enable notifications, we store a push-notification token (via Firebase Cloud Messaging) so we can send you booking and account updates.
Usage data: Pages viewed, features used, search queries, booking history, time spent on the app, and interaction patterns.
Location data: With your permission, we collect approximate (coarse) location only while you are using the app and choose to search, to help you find nearby sitters. We do not collect precise GPS location or track your location in the background. You can disable location access in your device settings; some features may not work without it.
Log data: IP address, access times, and referring URLs.
Cookies and similar technologies: We use cookies and local storage to keep you logged in, remember preferences, and (on our marketing website) measure usage. We do not use advertising or tracking pixels. See our Cookie Policy and Section 7 for details.

1.3 Information from Third Parties

Social login providers: If you sign up using Google, Apple, or another social login, we receive your name, email, and profile picture from that provider.
Payment processors: Transaction confirmations and fraud-related data from our payment partners.
Background check providers: For sitters, the status or result of a background check from Checkr, conducted with your consent and in compliance with applicable law. Sensitive details you enter on Checkr’s page (such as SSN and date of birth) stay with Checkr; we receive only the information needed to make an eligibility decision.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

3. AI and Automated Decision-Making

askKynos uses artificial intelligence and machine learning in several ways:

Sitter matching: Our algorithms analyze pet needs, sitter qualifications, availability, location, reviews, and other factors to suggest suitable matches. These are recommendations, not decisions — you always choose your sitter.
Pet care information: AI-generated content provides general pet care guidance. This content is not veterinary advice and should not replace consultation with a licensed veterinarian.
Content moderation: We use automated tools to detect policy violations in user-generated content.
Fraud detection: Automated systems help identify suspicious account activity and transactions.

We do not use fully automated decision-making that produces legal effects or similarly significant effects on you without human oversight. If you have concerns about automated processing, contact us at support@artemispetconnect.com.

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following circumstances:

4.1 With Other Users

When you book a sitter or accept a booking, certain information is shared between the pet owner and sitter to facilitate the service — for example, pet care instructions and contact details. To protect owners, your exact home address is not shown publicly: in search results, others see only an approximate area (about 0.5–1 km). The exact address is shared with the matched sitter only when needed during an active stay, and is hidden again once the booking is complete.

4.2 With Service Providers

We share information with third-party vendors who help us operate the Service, including:

Stripe — payment processing and sitter payouts
Supabase — cloud hosting, database, authentication, and file storage
Google Analytics — usage analytics on our marketing website only (not inside the app)
OpenAI and Anthropic — AI features; limited pet and booking context is sent server-side to generate responses
Firebase Cloud Messaging — push notifications (a device push token is stored if you enable notifications)
Checkr — background checks for sitter verification, with consent

These providers are contractually required to use your information only to perform services on our behalf and to protect it consistent with this Privacy Policy.

4.3 For Legal Reasons

We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of Artemis Petconnect Inc., our users, or the public.

4.4 Business Transfers

If Artemis Petconnect Inc. is involved in a merger, acquisition, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change and any choices you may have.

4.5 With Your Consent

We may share information in other ways if you give us explicit consent to do so.

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. After you close your account, we retain certain information as required by law (such as transaction records for tax purposes) or for legitimate business purposes (such as resolving disputes or enforcing our agreements). Specifically:

Account and profile data are deleted within 90 days of account closure, unless retention is required by law.
Transaction and booking records are retained for 7 years to comply with tax and financial regulations.
Communications and support tickets are retained for 3 years after your last interaction.
Anonymized and aggregated data (which cannot identify you) may be retained indefinitely for analytics and product improvement.

6. Data Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information, including:

Encryption of data in transit (TLS/SSL) and at rest
Secure authentication and access controls
Regular security assessments and vulnerability testing
Employee access limited to those with a business need to know

No system is perfectly secure. While we take reasonable steps to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a security breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you in accordance with applicable law.

7. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use the following types of cookies and similar technologies:

Analytics cookies run on our marketing website only, not inside the app; inside the app we use only essential and first-party functional storage. You can manage analytics cookies through the cookie banner on our website or your browser settings. See our Cookie Policy for the full list. Disabling certain cookies may affect functionality.

8. Your Rights and Choices

8.1 All Users

Regardless of where you live, you can:

Access and update your account information through the app settings
Delete your account by contacting us at support@artemispetconnect.com
Opt out of marketing emails by clicking the unsubscribe link in any marketing email
Manage push notification preferences in your device settings
Disable location sharing in your device settings

8.2 California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act and the California Privacy Rights Act:

Right to know: You can request details about the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you.
Right to delete: You can request that we delete your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.
Right to correct: You can request that we correct inaccurate personal information.
Right to opt out of sale or sharing: We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Right to non-discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

8.3 European Economic Area, UK, and Swiss Residents (GDPR)

If you are located in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation, including:

Legal basis for processing: We process your data based on contractual necessity (to provide the Service), legitimate interests (to improve the Service and ensure security), your consent (for marketing and optional features), and legal obligations.
Right to access, rectify, and erase: You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data.
Right to restrict processing: You can ask us to limit how we use your data in certain circumstances.
Right to data portability: You can request a copy of your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
Right to object: You can object to processing based on legitimate interests, including profiling.
Right to withdraw consent: Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time.

9. Children’s Privacy

The Service is intended for adults 18 and older and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn we have collected information from a child, we will take steps to delete it promptly. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@artemispetconnect.com.

10. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence, including the United States, where our servers and service providers are located. These countries may have different data protection laws than your jurisdiction. When we transfer data internationally, we use appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses or other mechanisms approved by relevant authorities.

11. Third-Party Links and Services

The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services that are not operated by us. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties. We encourage you to read the privacy policies of any third-party service you interact with.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or by email at least 30 days before the changes take effect. The “Effective Date” at the top of this policy indicates when it was last revised. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
